FAQ

Career
Questions

Email [email protected] or call (888) 304-1334.

Is content creation actually a career?

+

Yes. Brands, agencies and in-house marketing teams hire for it under titles like content producer, social media manager, video editor, brand storyteller and UGC creator. The work also runs freelance, where you build a client roster instead of taking a salary.

Do I need a degree to work in this field?

+

Not always, but it changes what you have access to. In-house and agency roles frequently list a degree in marketing, communications or media as a requirement, while freelance and UGC work is judged on your portfolio. A lot of people do both: study for the credential, freelance for the income and the samples.

What would I study?

+

Programs relevant to this career sit under digital media, marketing, communications, film and video production, and graphic design. Which one fits depends on whether you want to be behind the camera, running strategy, or managing a brand's whole channel.

Can I afford to go back to school?

+

More people qualify for grant money than assume they do, and grants are not loans. You may qualify for up to $7,395 in Federal Pell Grant funding for the 2026–27 award year, depending on financial need and enrollment status. It takes a couple of minutes to check.

Do I have to stop working to study?

+

No. Most relevant programs run online and part-time, which is why so many people in this field study and take paid client work at the same time. The projects you produce while studying become the portfolio you get hired on.

Do I need a big following to get hired?

+

No. Employers and brands hire on skill and fit, not follower count. A tight portfolio in one specialization beats a large general audience almost every time.

How long before I am earning?

+

That depends on your specialization and how quickly you build samples. Freelance content work can start paying well before a program finishes, which is why studying and earning in parallel is the normal route in this field rather than the exception.
